- The EtherCAT chassis for slow controls is based on Beckhoff automation technology built on Ethernet. It is a 3U chassis with 3 DIN rails mounted inside. The front panel contains the Ethernet connections, whereas the rear panel seats up to 8 adapter boards. Each adapter board interfaces an external unit such as the common mode board. It typically contains a D-sub connector which is wired 1:1 to the external unit. Internally, the DIN rails are populated with power supplies and EtherCAT modules. An EtherCAT module consists of a coupler and multiple terminals which are used for binary and analog input/output.
