LIGO Document G0900548-v5
- The upcoming joint observations with the LIGO-Virgo network of detectors will provide an unprecedented opportunity for searches of transient gravitational wave signals.
We present the improved performances of a coherent maximum likelihood method for the detections and reconstruction of the GW signal parameters, i.e. the source location and the waveforms of the polarization amplitudes .This method is based on minimal assumptions on the burst signal, so to preserve its efficiency for the widest possible signal classes, and has been implemented in a computationally efficient pipeline.
In particular, we focus on the resulting probability sky maps for the reconstructed source coordinates and on the corresponding error regions. We demonstrate the capabilities of the method using simulated data streams for LIGO and Virgo.
