LIGO Document G1000800-v2
- The United States underwent tremendous growth in its population and standard of living in the last century largely due to improvements in the intellectual capital of its citizens. Since the end of the Cold War, many other nations have raced to follow our lead and raise their citizens from poverty to prosperity. At the same time, the world has become more integrated and workers and industries now compete in a global market. Our ability as a nation to innovate and create new ideas, invent better processes and make better products will determine whether our economy and quality of life in the future will remain near the top or slide downward. You have no choice about taking this ride to future, but you can make choices now that might affect whether you ride first class, coach, or freight. What kinds of choices in the next few years are most likely to give you the ride you want?
