Abstract:
Current gravitational wave searches for compact binaries neglect the higher order harmonics of the emitted radiation. Several studies have demonstrated that this neglection has an important impact in terms of event loss and parameter bias on high mass non-spinning searches and in the context of the design version of Advanced LIGO. We extend these studies to the case of single-aligned spin searches for both Advanced LIGO and the upcoming early Advanced LIGO, which will come online this year and whose higher frequency seismic wall crucially enhances the effect of higher order modes.
