Abstract:
We present an implementation of EtherCAT system used for the Glasgow speed meter experiment. CDS and EtherCAT systems run in parallel, where EtherCAT handles the majority of slower channels with requirements for sampling below 2kHz, while CDS takes care of the fast channels that require sampling rates up to 64kHz. This way a large cost savings can be achieved. An interface between EtherCAT and EPICS has been developed to allow data exchange and user control of both systems from a single interface.
