Abstract:
Among the different mechanical architectures present in literature, the Folded Pendulum, a particular configuration of the Watt’s linkage, is very promising for the implementation of a new class of mechanical accelerometers (horizontal and vertical). We present monolithic implementations of uniaxial linear mechanical sensors based on the UNISA Folded Pendulum mechanical configuration, optimized for low frequency characterization of sites (including underground sites) and structures as inertial linear sensor (seismometer). These sensors are very effective for the implementation of uniaxial (horizontal and/or vertical) and triaxial seismometers (velocimeters and/or accelerometers) for ground, space and underwater applications, including UHV and cryogenic ones. In particular, the UNISA Folded Pendulum architecture has been demonstrated to be fully scalable, both theoretically and experimentally, according to tests performed on many models, like the ones presented here (GE15, GF15, GI16).
