Wide angle scatter from LIGO arm cavities

Abstract:

We estimate the phase noise due to wide angle scatter light from the arm cavity mirrors (test masses). Such wide angle scattered light has been observed from the initial LIGO test masses, and is believed to be caused by point defects or dust on the mirror surface. We estimate how much this scattered light needs to be baffled for Advanced LIGO.

This is a new version of a note from 2007, as T070089-05 in the old DCC. This version corrects a couple of errors found by Kip Thorne, as well as what appears to be a graphical problem with Fig 2 in the old note.
