Abstract:
The Main File is a list of recommended machining fluids that meet the requirements for use on parts that go into the ultra-high vacuum system. (This list is not meant to be exclusive but merely to provide some possible options.)

It is required that these fluids are:
     (i) fully synthetic,
     (ii) 100% water soluble,
(iii) and free of silicone, sulfur, and chlorine.
WITH THE FINAL ITEM (iii) BEING THE MOST IMPORTANT.

The .PDF under Other Files is a list of acceptable machining fluids that can be used on parts intended for the LIGO UHV system as long as the parts are Cleaned & Baked well and/or undergo special Cleaning. They either 1) only meet item (iii) above or 2) do not meet one or more of the items above but passed LIGO testing. (This list is not meant to be exclusive but merely to provide some possible options.)

'E0900237-x0' links to the live/working document from which these lists were made. That live/working document obtained names of machining fluids from various sources, then investigated each machining fluid through its data sheet (all of which are contained in the .ZIP file on this page under Other Files) and/or by directly contacting the maker of that machining fluid. Also, that live/working document contains additional, LIGO-only information not shown on this version.

Citation: Some of the information on these lists come from a document prepared by Yulin Li [ slide 7 of https://uspas.fnal.gov/materials/17UCDavis/Vacuum/USPAS%202017%20Vacuum%20Session%205_4%20Fab_and_Clean.pdf ]. A few fluids on that list are not here because the criteria is different from that of LIGO.
